It was 2:00 AM on a Tuesday. My desk was lit only by the glare of two monitors, lines of code, and an endless stream of unread notifications. For over a decade as a software engineer, my entire reality existed in pixels. That night, after hours of relentless screen fatigue, my hand brushed against something unexpected on the corner of my desk: a rough chunk of raw quartz, sent by an old friend.
It was cold, textured, and heavy.
For the first time in months, I closed my laptop, muted my phone, and just sat there in the dark, turning that unpolished stone in my palm. It didn't demand a response. It didn't buzz. It had taken millions of years of subterranean heat and pressure to exist, completely indifferent to modern deadlines. In that stillness, holding something real brought me back to myself.

The quartz opened the door to mineralogy, but my search for a truly tactile, living medium led me to natural jade and genuine gemstones.

I needed to shape it with my own hands. What began as late-night reading turned into an obsession: sourcing raw rough stones, setting up lapidary wheels, and learning the exacting art of cutting, grinding, and polishing.
The First Leaf
The very first finished piece was a small jade pendant shaped like a young leaf, holding a deep pool of organic green. It was far from machine-perfect—the bevels held the slight hesitation of a craftsman finding his touch. I strung it onto a simple woven cord and gave it to my seven-year-old daughter.
